One-way fares have been available on other cruise ships regularly calling on Bermuda, but berths can normally only be confirmed close to the time of sailing.

But with excess capacity on the Royal Majesty -- in her first year as the cruise ship dedicated to St. George's -- cabins can be booked into September and beyond.

"Obviously, next year, the company is hoping they won't have to do this,'' said Mr. Graeme Seaton, general manager of GSA Bermuda Ltd. "It's a matter of getting in on it while the availability is there.'' GSA has been a sales and marketing representative for Majesty in Bermuda since January.

Depending on the date of sailing and the type of cabin booked, the one-way rates range from $329 to $389, plus port charges and departure taxes. The rates are per person, based on double occupancy.

Those sailing from Bermuda would leave St. George's at noon on a Thursday and arrive at Boston on Saturday morning, Mr. Seaton said.

Those coming the other way would leave Boston on Saturday afternoon and arrive in the Old Town on Monday morning.
