Hotel room attack couple: We'll be back

The following is a letter from the visiting couple who were attacked by a burglar in their room at Grotto Bay resort last weekend:

October 20, 2010.

Dear Sir,

We have visited Bermuda three times now, it is a beautiful island, and we hope to return next year.

We understand that only one person attacked, and this person may not have even been Bermudian. We would like to thank everyone else in Bermuda for the outpouring of sympathy, warmth, kindness, and goodwill.

In particular, we would like to thank J.P. Martens and Clyde Darrell, General Manager and Resident Manager of the Grotto Bay, as we as all Grotto Bay personnel, for their sincere concern, generosity, and kindness throughout our ordeal and the remainder of our stay on the island. The Department of Tourism, represented by Billy Griffith, Director of Tourism, and Marcus Jones, Manager of Hotel Administration, warmly demonstrated their concern and caring while we were in hospital and offered any help we might need thereafter. The police were gracious enough to accommodate our needs and perform their duties at our convenience, which we much appreciated. In addition, the hospital staff in the Emergency room, Anaesthesia Recovery, on Perry Ward, the Pharmacy, and in the Fracture Clinic were extremely helpful, caring, and competent. Other patients and Bermudians we met after our hospital stay were so wonderfully warm and personal that we really felt the true nature of Bermuda with them.

Lastly, but very importantly, we were touched by the spirit and support from the organisers and our fellow swimmers. We would especially like to thank Randy Nutt, Kevin Insley, Mike Cash, and Patty Hill, who visited us in hospital to extend their help and their hope that we would return to Bermuda to swim with them again.

We will be back for the 2011 Round the Sound Swim — we don't want to lose the gains we've made in our 2010 preparation!

Thank you all again,

BARBARA AND PETER
