Please allow me a few lines in your column to remind my fellow Bermudians of some of the things that makes us what we are; A country of wonderful humanitarian individuals

Not that this hasn't always existed, but for me it became evident on the morning that Linda (Cookie) Fox came to my door in St. David's to let me know that there had been a fire and Maxie might be involved.

When the Police could not identify Maxie's body, I told them it was Maxie, because had it not been he would have been there questioning what happened to his chateau. That is exactly how Maxie felt about this concrete garage. I remember when hurricanes would be approaching I would say to him 'where are you going to go during the hurricane? He would say to me if it gets too bad at his chateau he would go up to the old hospital.

To Mr. Michael Gringley, I say thank you for Maxie's Chateau. Maybe someone could make a sign and put it on the garage "Maxie's Chateau".

What a wonderful way to honour Maxie's memory. To the many individuals who have called, sent flowers, expressed condolences, spoke of how he helped them, shown concern, I say thank you, you have proven what good hearts we Bermudians have. I say this because you have shown that having money and material possessions is not the only reason people remember those who have passed on.

To the lady who came up to me at the hospital and told my husband and I, of your fond memory of Maxie, thank you. You said you left your son with Maxie and he would fish with him off the St. David's dock, believe me it was good for Maxie, he loved helping others.

To the lady who lives on one of the nearby inhabited little islands around the dock area. Thank you for letting me know that he would be missed because most of the time when your boat got to the dock Maxie would be there to help you up the dock or to greet you and members of your family.

To everyone who called, unfortunately I cannot remember all of you, but you know who you are. Thank You.

To Melissa, Melony, Loretta, Judy and anyone else who helped out with the 'Memory Wake', Albert Fox who arranged for Larrita Adderley to honour Maxie's Memory, THANK YOU.

To the St. David's Cricket Club, Arron Lugo and whoever else helped, thank you.

To the congregation and the Reverend of Chapel of Ease Church, thank you.

To Doreen Williams James at Alpha Memorial Chapel, thank you.

To the gentlemen of St. David's and their wives, thank you.

You honoured Maxie in such a wonderful way — a fishing tournament with a fish fry. It was wonderful!
