What's on my mind?

July 28, 2009
Dear Sir,

What's on my mind?

July 28, 2009

Dear Sir,

I'm no longer going to allow the temptation of writing about people's downfalls to corrupt my purpose of spreading love, and concern for all. It seems almost natural to bring down your neighbour and expose their wrongs, even when you're doing the exact same thing.

It puts a smile on your face when you watch the so-called people you can't stand fail with an obstacle in life. Your conscience doesn't bother you knowing that your neighbour doesn't have food, but you insist on throwing away food in their view. Driving across individuals walking in the same direction and toot your horn when you pass.

While in church you're talking about Sister Brown or Brother Smith behind their back, and the person sitting behind you can't over hear the sermon. You apply on your brakes when you feel as though the person behind you wouldn't be able to stop in time before hitting you, just so you can get that spray job you wanted.

P.s. If you can identify with doing any of the above statements go a little closer to the mirror across the street so you're the only object it reflects, and than re-evaluate yourself. May God bless each and all …

Apology from Post Office

August 4, 2009

Dear Sir,

Re: Proper Addressing of mail.

My name is Craig Tyrrell and I am the Operations Manager for the Bermuda Post Office. I hope that you will allow me to respond to a letter posted in the Letters to the Editor section of your paper dated Saturday, August 1, 2009 "Incorrect Address: and signed "Confused, St. David's or St. George?"

The Bermuda Post Office has aggressively been campaigning over the past few weeks to educate the public about changes to the Postal Act and Regulations which include such things as erecting mailboxes and properly addressing mail. The author of that letter spoke to the latter and was quite correct in his/her point.

In order for a mail packet to be delivered to a physical address it must have the correct building/house number, unit (if applicable), street name, PARISH, postcode and a return to sender address. There are only nine parishes in Bermuda, namely: St. George, Hamilton Parish, Smith's, Devonshire, Pembroke, Paget, Warwick, Southampton and Sandys.

In our marketing material we show a sample letter, unfortunately using St. David's in the return to sender address as the parish when in actual fact it should have said St. George's.

Please accept our apology as this was an error on our part and we did not mean to confuse anyone. We do, however, continue to encourage everyone to use the correct information when sending mail to ensure that it reaches the intended recipient. If anyone is unsure as to which parish or postcode a street belongs to visit www.landvaluation.bm or call 294-9264 for clarification.

For general questions about the legislative changes I encourage everyone to visit our website www.gov.bm and click on the postal changes link or call us at 297-7893.
