Dear Sir,

I have just seen the procession order that is scheduled for the upcoming May 24th Bermuda Day Parade and I have noticed that Sybil, who is calling himself Queen of Bermuda and another fellow who is calling himself Queen of Portugal, are going to appear at the front of the parade, along with the Grand Marshall and various beauty pageant winners.

I do not understand why these fellows have to be stuck right up at the front of this longtime traditional community day event. Usually parades are lead by the likes of dignitaries and pageant winners and I do not think that Sybil or this other fellow fall into either of these categories earning them a place at the front of our Bermuda Day Parade.

We seem to be sending the wrong message to our community and the world. To have a man called 'Queen of Bermuda' is rather inappropriate and outright embarrassing to me as a Bermudian. This just seems like an inappropriate participant name for a parade that stems from heritage roots. This is yet another example of where Bermuda is allowing its standards to be denigrated – I guess this happens when people do not have a real connection with their heritage/history.

It is quite apparent that the gombeys know their history which is why they did not allow a gay man to present himself as the Queen of the Gombeys in last year's Bermuda Day Parade. They put their foot down leaving Sybil with no other choice than to abandon his gombey outfit. What I want to know is how come all of our people and in particular our politicians are not making a big stink about Sybil calling himself 'Queen of Bermuda'.

I must make it very clear that I do not have a problem with gay people taking part in the Bermuda Day Parade, but I do not understand why men have to be called queens and furthermore why is a man being allowed to call himself Queen of Bermuda in our Bermuda Day Parade.

In addition, I have to question why these fellows are appearing up at the front of the parade in what is the equivalent of a VIP section. Finally, why does Sybil have to be called Queen of anything? As far as I know Bermudians have not elected or appointed Sybil, Queen of Bermuda. If he really wanted to be called Queen something, he could have simply called himself Queen Sybil, thus utilising his female stage name that everyone has already embraced.

I think that we have to start drawing the line somewhere.

A brainless act

Dear Sir,

The individual who sent out the email about Chopsticks serving rats in their food is a very mentally sick person and those who received the email and forwarded it on to others are equally sick.

The demented, brainless individual who formulated this sick e-mail on company time should incur the full wrath for his stupidity. How about for starters the payment both short and long term business loss to Chopsticks? How about a libel suit for his sick e-mail. I'd sue him for millions? How about the damage to the reputation of Chopsticks... $$$$$$$.? How about using his company's e-mail to send out the insidious joke... How about being fired? How about the embarrassment to his wife and family, if he has one. Priceless.

And for those clowns who received the email and did nothing. You guys are totally gutless. Let the punishment fit the crime. What an idiot!

As a customer of Chopsticks, I wish the management good luck and be assured that I will continue my patronage to your establishment. I feel for what you are going through.
