The Opposition United Bermuda Party might is right to say that changes to traffic laws and increased enforcement of the law are the best possible ways to return sanity to the roads and to prevent road deaths.

But it is wrong to oppose the use of graphic images in advertising and posters as part of the same effort. If Bermuda is to save lives, then it needs to use every means available, and that includes hard hitting posters and public awareness campaigns.

No one is suggesting that it is the only answer and the Road Safety Council and the Government should certainly not think that they are a panacea and that their work is done. But it is also wrong to quibble about details of the campaign when what is needed now is an all-out offensive on all fronts.
