Goodwill ambassadors

November 18, 2009

Dear Sir,

My wife and I, recent visitors to Bermuda on the NCL cruise ship Dawn, want to express our gratitude to several men who greatly enhanced our visit.

First, there was Mr. Ming, who works for Phoenix Newspaper Delivery Service. He came upon us while we were trying to get our bearings in a remote location. He insisted on driving us to our next tourist point of interest, many miles out of his way and well off his delivery route. He refused any compensation for his considerable time and gas expense.

Several days later, on October 29, we had lunch at the Black Horse Tavern on St David's and met taxi cab owners Gary O'Brian Williams and his friend, who had a moustache. They were at the restaurant to celebrate the donation by their cricket club of $4000 to the Salvation Army, the proceeds of a charity match.

We asked if we could hire the Toyota taxi owned by Gary's friend to take us to the ferry terminal.

Instead, the gentlemen insisted that we be their guests on a no-fare tour of some of the most beautiful sites in Bermuda (that we would have missed), ending at the ferry terminal. Again, these men went out of their way, in time and gas expense, to provide a unique experience to us foreign tourists.

These men acted without expectation of recognition or reward. They epitomise the finest Goodwill Ambassadors that Bermuda has to offer. If there are awards available, our sincere hope is that these wonderful men be recognised for their kindness and generosity.
