Absurd to the nth degree
October 16, 2008
Dear Sir,
I read the Gazette every day online from New York. I have been to Bermuda 36 times and I like to see what is happening in my favourite place in the world.
I read Mr. Dunleavy's article about the negative presidential ads in America and couldn't believe someone could actually believe it. Is Julian Hall for real when he says "the most negative, heavily-coded, but thinly-veiled, campaign of raw and naked racism in the history of modern democracy. It's the economy, stupid. And race."
That statement is absurd to the nth degree. Apparently he does not visit the US very often. Where does he get his news, CNBC or the Daily Kos? I play softball on a mostly black team. We talk politics often, but there has never been the slightest reference to racism in our conversations. Plus I have not come across one person in New York that would agree with him.
I feel sorry for the uninformed readers of Mr. Hall's propaganda, because they will only become more racially polarised. That is what has happened to Bermuda since I have been coming since 1974. I have seen Bermuda's racial divide enlarge over the years, thanks to people like Mr. Hall.
