Praise for Bermuda
September 1, 2009
Dear Sir,
I recently enjoyed the pleasure of your beautiful Islands as a delegate to the Convention of the New York Life Insurance Company held at the Fairmont Hotel. I was there under similar circumstances 10 years ago and, once again, I was duly impressed.
Bermuda is one of the cleanest and most beautiful of any Country I've been in and that includes many other cities on three meandering trips around the world. Accolades must go to your Department of Roads and Highways. Each of the roads I travelled was in excellent repair, well signed and pleasant on which to drive. One has the feeling that the whole Country has been prettied up for a special event. It was the same 10 years ago.
My son and his wife were there on their honeymoon 20 years ago. Unfortunately, they were riding a scooter for two and suffered a highway accident. In the course of being taken from a busy "roundabout" to a local hospital, they were impressed with the competence of your police, your EMT personnel, the medical staff, the medical care received and a surgeon who appeared swiftly on a Saturday evening and repaired a broken arm.
Bermudians must be very proud of their Country. They keep it clean and colourfully painted properly in pastel colours. It's truly a gem.
I enjoyed the rare opportunity of meeting your Premier, The Honourable Doctor Ewart F. Brown. It seems to me that any Country would be privileged to be led by a man of his professional training, his pragmatic concepts of good government and his wonderful ability to engage in delightful conversation as we sat next to each other recently for nearly two hours on a flight from Bermuda to Boston.
