Remorseful Brannon needs our forgiveness
Dear Sir,
Thank you for allowing my letter to be published in your newspaper. I am writing in reference to the silence of the churches and Christians in the wake of the insensitive Tony Brannon comments on Facebook.
At the moment, he is off island, so I am unable to speak with him, but I hear that he is extremely remorseful over what he has printed and those he has offended, and is willing to meet personally to say so.
So as Christians, we must ask ourselves what would Christ do in this situation — and the answer would be to forgive him because how can your Father in heaven forgive you on the day of judgment if you do not forgive your fellow man?
Jesus also went on to say that if someone slaps you on the cheek then turn the other cheek.
The only way that we can eradicate racism is to begin with forgiveness. Our white ancestors, we know, treated both black and Portuguese persons very unfairly, so as we live in the present the white Christians must sincerely apologise to them — not only from the mouth but through actions.
Faith without action is useless in God’s eye.
We know that the majority of menial and low-paid jobs are more often held by black Bermudians. Why not go out and make little steps in faith by meeting up with the garbage collectors, the restaurant dishwashers, the laundry workers, the landscapers, the poor fellows that have fallen through the cracks, etc.
Give them a meal or a few dollars and give them some spiritual comfort by telling them that the Lord loves them, and that the first in this world will be the last and that they will be the first.
The Lord said that when you are faithful in little things, then He will give you greater things.
How can He give you the greatest gift of all, which is the Holy Spirit, if you don’t keep your temple of the Holy Spirit clean?
The early Christians and disciples — just ordinary people like you and me — were filled with the Holy Spirit, and they performed many miracles such as healing people, casting out demons, etc.
Now that we are in the last days, the Lord said that He will pour out the Holy Spirit in the full.
We live in very exciting time; the harvest is full. The Lord needs his people to go out and evangelise and pray for the Holy Spirit to change the hearts of sinners and repent from their sins, which I will do when Mr Brannon returns to the island.
Remember in Acts chapter one, Saul was persecuting the Christians of the day. Then the Lord blinded him on the Damascus Road, and after three days of repentance, he became one of the greatest apostles for the Lord.
Remember that he who has most sins forgiven will often have the most love for others.
So in closing, pray for the full anointing of the Holy Spirit. Walk in faith through actions. Have hope, the anticipation of something wonderful to come. Pray for God’s love to abide in you. Which is the greatest love of all.
May God’s light shine upon you.
