Famous men’s magazine Penthouse has to be one of the more unusual publications for Gosling’s Rum and Bermuda’s national drink Dark ‘n Stormy to appear in.

Alongside soft-porn photographs in the April edition is a full page article paying homage to Bermuda’s “signature cocktail” and includes a three-step instruction on how to pour the perfect Dark ‘n Stormy using Gosling’s Black Seal rum and ginger beer. Penthouse is the flagship publication of the Penthouse Media Group, and its five magazines have a total monthly readership estimated at more than two million.

It famously includes various photo-led features presenting nude women models, as well as other more general articles of interest to its predominantly male readership.

The one-page feature on Dark ‘n Stormy extols the virtues of the drink and claims it can be enjoyed all day long without incident.

“By your seventh you won’t be puking or ogling bearded ladies. You’ll feel hazy and warm and properly sunned. Maybe it’s science; something chemical in the mix that turns your average teetotaller into Ernest Hemingway by way of Jerry Garcia,” enthuses writer Howard Kahn.

The article includes a picture of a bottle of Gosling’s Black Seal rum and suggests the best brands of ginger beer to use are Barritts, Stewart’s or Regatta.

A spokesman for Gosling’s said a copy of the magazine has been placed in range of curious clients to see how widespread and diverse are the places where the Island’s famous brand pops up.
