IT insurance conference

The role that information technology can play in meeting the ever-evolving challenges facing the insurance and reinsurance industry will be the subject of a conference at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess today.

Computer giant IBM and Bermuda Computer Services (BCS) are hosting the event, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., which will focus on trends in the industry.

Sessions will cover topics such as enterprise content and e-mail management, product lifecycle management, industry models, straight through processing, data management, risk management and regulatory compliance.

Speakers will include James Brisker, IBM’s global insurance industry leader and David Sterner, IBM’s global insurance segment manager.

Mr. Sterner said last night the conference was aimed at upper-level management of Bermuda insurers and reinsurers, particularly chief information officers.

“I think what’s unique about this conference is that we will will go through both the IT and business issues and how these two sides of an organisation can deal with the challenges,” Mr. Sterner said.

“We will be looking at the issues and challenges that today’s insurance companies are facing and the capabilities that companies will have to acquire or build to meet those challenges.”

Insurance business solutions professional David Notestein, who specialises in advice on subjects including data management and business intelligence, will also speak. And David Dobrindt, from IBM’s insurance solutions sales team, completes the line-up.
