CellularOne opens new Hamilton store

Ready to go: Customer care reps Kamilah Johnson, Kevin Smith, Ruth Binns, and Danielle Richardson open the new Cellular One shop on Burnaby Street.

CellularOne has opened its fifth outlet in Bermuda — and its third in Hamilton — having taken over the former Staples shop in Burnaby Street.

The refit of the shop took around six weeks and included in the 1,100 square-foot location is a personal consultation area where customers will be able to get one-to-one help and assistance from a customer care representative.

And the new outlet also gives the CellularOne a key position in one of the city’s busiest streets for passing customers.

Chief operations officer Michael Leverock, said: “We are always looking for additional ways to meet the needs of our customers. Opening this new store location in a high traffic area ensures that our customers have expanded options for their retail shopping and customer service needs.

“The new store offers a welcoming and enjoyable environment in which to browse our extensive product line and speak to our knowledgeable customer care representatives.”

Amongst the handsets on sale are the newly introduced push-to-talk “walkie talkie” capable Kyocera KX440/444 phones.

Attending the ribbon cutting was Minister of the Environment, Telecommunications & E-Commerce Neletha Butterfield who said: “I am always pleased to see local telecommunications companies grow and expand. As we celebrate CellularOne’s new store, we are also celebrating the Island’s thriving telecommunications industry.

“The success of this sector is intricately tied to the success of innovative and forward-thinking companies like CellularOne who serve as an example of what can be achieved in Bermuda through hard work, commitment to business success, and appreciation for the needs of island residents.”

City of Hamilton mayor Sutherland Madeiros said: “It gives me great pleasure to know that companies based within our flourishing city continue to expand their operations and broaden their reach within the community.”

The new shop had its design led by Clare Radford of s.h.y. Architecture and construction by Trevor Aitken of Drywall Interior Systems & Ceilings. It is next door to Continental Cafe and will be open for business from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
