Bosses' chance to show their appreciation

Bosses should get candies, flowers and gifts at the ready for their secretaries and administrative professionals in readiness for Administrative Professionals’ Day — formerly known as Secretaries’ Day — later this month.

To celebrate the work of administrative professionals a number of events have been organised by the Bermuda chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) for the week beginning April 23.

The IAAP exists to promote professional excellence amongst those who work in administration be they assistants, receptionists, or clerical employees.

“Administrative assistants do a good job and when our (Bermuda) IAAP core values and the international IAAP core values come together we feel a part of the wider administrative universe,” said Tina Wilson, vice-president of the local branch.

She said the coming together of administrative professionals as a group during the week is recognition of their work, helps instil those core values further and “makes us better professionals”.

Bermuda’s Administrative Professionals Week will commence with a buffet breakfast and office expo to feature Bermuda Monetary Authority chief executive officer Cheryl-Ann Lister on the topic of “Creating Your Legacy” at the Broadway Bistro Restaurant at Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute on the morning of April 23.

That event is likely to attract around 50 attendees.

On the actual Administrative Professionals’ Day, which is April 25, there will be a day-long event at the Fairmont Southampton Hotel on the topic of “Shaping Your Future...Your Way” featuring speaker Dr. Jan Fraser when anywhere up to 100 professionals are expected to attend.

There will also be a special reception to mark the end the week on April 27.
