Jones named as the next Aspen chairman

Glyn Jones was yesterday named as the next chairman of Bermuda-based Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd. after the company announced that current chairman Paul Myners will retire from its board next month.

Mr. Myners has been chairman since Aspen was founded in 2002 and will step down at the company’s annual general meeting on May 2. Mr. Jones joined him on the Aspen board last year.

Mr. Jones brings many years of leadership experience in the financial world, having served as chief executive officer of Thames River Capital, CEO of Gartmore Investment Management, CEO of Coutts Natwest Group and Coutts Group, and a former consulting partner with Coopers & Lybrand / Deloitte Haskins & Sells Management Consultants.

“Paul has been a tremendous asset to Aspen and put in place firm foundations,” Mr. Jones said in a company press release yesterday. “I look forward to continuing to work with the board, Chris and the rest of the management team to support and shape Aspen’s future.

“The company is focused on delivering superior client service and shareholder value, priorities which I share.”

Aspen is a Bermudian holding company that provides property and casualty reinsurance globally, as well as property and liability insurance, mainly in the UK and the US. Last year, the company made record profits of $378.1 million.

Outgoing chairman Mr. Myners said: “Over the last five years Aspen has developed a reputation as a significant player in its chosen markets. As the company transitions into its next stage of development, I am delighted that Glyn Jones is to succeed me as chairman. I have worked with Glyn in various companies over the last seven years and have the highest regard for his executive skills and record of achievement in financial services.”
