Marine insurance forum next week

Concern about higher claims being made in marine insurance will be at the forefront of discussion when the first TradeWinds Marine Risk Forum is held in Bermuda at the end of next week.

The shipping industry newspaper is convening a two-day conference to allow delegates to hear from industry experts on current issues surrounding hull and P&I cover.

Representatives of the US Coast Guard will also speak on the best way for a ship to avoid being detained.

Co-chair of the conference Jens Alers, managing director of Dorchester Atlantic Marine, said: “I always found it somewhat ironic that the location with the highest concentration of insurance companies is actually on top of a dormant volcano called Bermuda.

“I always thought that marine insurance and marine risks do not feature prominently enough on this oceanic scene.

“the regulatory and environmental conditions shipowners operate under have changed dramatically over the years and will continue to change at a fast pace.

“The Marine Risk Forum is most welcome as a long overdue event for the executives of the marine risk markets to come together for a few days of intensive debate and brainstorming.”
