Robert Allen has been appointed vice-president of healthcare at Allied World Assurance Company's subsidiary Allied World Assurance Company (US) Inc.

He will oversee the underwriting and servicing of healthcare risks underwritten in the US. Mr. Allen brings with him 16 years of experience in the underwriting and placement of healthcare professional liability business.

"Bob brings a wealth of knowledge to our healthcare customers," said Dick Jodoin, president of Allied World US. "He has a proven track record of developing creative solutions for clients, and has strong relationships with producers and risk managers nation-wide."

Mr. Allen said: "Allied World US has an existing healthcare platform that offers insurance solutions to middle-market accounts, including hospitals with 400 beds or fewer, miscellaneous healthcare facilities, regional managed care and regional senior living facilities. I look forward to helping build this segment as well as assisting in expanding our US platform."

Prior to joining Allied World US, Mr. Allen served as the vice-president of operations and marketing for Zurich's healthcare group.
