US Airways upbeat on increased traffic

DALLAS (Bloomberg) — US Airways Group Inc. said increased travel bookings and higher fares are creating an "encouraging revenue environment" as the third quarter begins.Passenger revenue for each seat flown a mile at the seventh-largest US airline and its commuter partners rose slightly in May and June compared with a year earlier, US Airways said in a regulatory filing. The carrier previously had said the May figure would be slightly down from 2006.
Yesterday's filing departed from chief executive officer Doug Parker's comment in April that increased US airline capacity and competition were stalling the Tempe, Arizona-based carrier's sales growth and making it harder to pass on rising fuel costs.
