NEW YORK (Bloomberg) — Research In Motion Ltd.'s market value exceeded Motorola Inc.'s for the first time as the BlackBerry maker won a greater share of sales with its e-mail- equipped phones.Research In Motion's shares rose 5.6 percent to $227.52 at 4 p.m. New York time on Friday in Nasdaq Stock Market trading, giving the company a market capitalisation of $42.3 billion. Shares of Motorola fell 1 percent to $17.90 on the New York Stock Exchange, yielding a market value of $41.4 billion.
Shares of Research In Motion have risen 78 percent this year as new BlackBerrys with music players and web browsers helped the company achieve record revenue and profit. Shares of Motorola fell 13 percent. This week the company reported a second straight quarterly loss after failing to introduce attractive products to replace the Razr, which went on sale in 2004.
