<Bt-4z31>Former Monte Carlo to become medical centre

Transformation: The former Monte Carlo restuarant on Victoria Street, which is undergoing conversion into a medical centre.

City-goers will be able to more conveniently squeeze a check-up into their working day or during their shopping expeditions thanks to a new medical centre which is set to open in the centre of Hamilton later this year.

The former Monte Carlo restaurant, which closed its doors last summer, is set to be reopened as a walk-in clinic offering medicals, check-ups and blood tests following renovation work.

The centre, which will be run by Dr. JJ Soares, who is moving his practice closer to the city centre, is due to be officially unveiled at the beginning of September.

Dr. Soares confirmed what the the centre would be used for.

"It is going to be a medical clinic," he said. "It will be opening at convenient hours to the public for medicals and blood tests. It is something that we are aiming to locate in Hamilton that is accessible to people that work and shop there."
