North Rock edges ahead in the internet speed contest
The internet speed pricing war stepped up a notch, with North Rock Communications and Logic Communications going head-to-head over the latest service upgrades.
Logic has moved it clients up 544 kbps from 256 kbps to 800 kbps, again for $69.95 per month, enabling them to enjoy a quicker internet service.
But North Rock has gone a step further by upgrading its customers who receive 256 kilobits per second (kbps) by 768 kbps to one megabit per second (Mbps) for the same price of $69.95, offering a four times faster speed, according to the Computer Society of Bermuda.
Che Barker, marketing manager at North Rock, said the new service would allow customers to try new web applications, while internet radio, You Tube, voice and video chat would be easier to access.
"Bermuda, as in the rest of the world, is seeing an upward trend in terms of bandwidth speeds and North Rock is always working to give our customers more," he said. "North Rock's decision to upgrade our 256k customers to 1MB is based upon our new campaign celebrating North Rock's position as Bermuda's Number 1 ISP.
"We are constantly striving to go the extra mile for our customers and we saw this as a great opportunity to say thank you to our customers who have made North Rock such a success."
Other recent developments by North Rock include an upgrade to the company's wireless broadband network, enabling it to offer speeds of up to 4MB.
"Moving forward we see an increase in both the products and speeds offered to the local marketplace," said Mr. Barker. "Increased off-Island bandwidth will only help facilitate this."
