GPS surveillance technology to be used to deter bike theft
Motorcycle owners will be able to track down their stolen bikes or safeguard their property using the latest GPS technology thanks to a new company offering security solutions and surveillance devices in Bermuda which was launched yesterday.
MotoLink, which was officially unveiled at a press conference at the Royal Hamilton Dinghy Club, will be supported by Bermuda Security Group and network provider Digicel.
Present at the launch were MotoLink's IT director Brian Doyle, and sales and marketing director Tulani Bulford, and Bermuda Security Group's CEO Herman Tucker, vice-president of security services Wayne Edwards, vice-president of business development and finance Paul Ross, central station manager Arnim Donawa, and compliance officer Andrew Lavery, along with Wayne Caines, CEO of Digicel, and William Reid, managing director of SafeTrac.
The new technology will enable users to do everything from managed video hosting and mobile/remote phone video surveillance to the provision of marine GPS units and motorcycle theft and accident GPS detection units, and even GPS property tracking.
MotoLink, which will focus on GPS tracking solutions using security technology as a cost-effective one-stop shop, claims to offer the most comprehensive mobile IP video security camera systems on the Island, with the advantage of being backed up by Bermuda Security Group - the country's biggest security company with the only on-Island 24-hour manned monitoring station.
Mr. Tucker kicked off the event by talking about Bermuda Security Group's keenness to explore new security options, while Mr. Caines said Digicel was excited to team up with Bermuda Security Group and MotoLink to offer the new products, which combined the latest advancements in technology and safety.
Mr. Doyle then gave an overview of MotoLink's offerings, with Mr. Reid of SafeTrac, the UK-based provider of the products, explaining how his company had employed the services of Bermuda Security Group to tap into its local knowledge of security on the Island and expertise, and ultimately bring the new technology to Bermuda.
"Our product offering represents a natural, logical convergence between information technology and security - a trend that can be seen globally," said Mr. Doyle. "Examples of this are clearly demonstrated in our innovative solutions, such as GPS-based fleet management, fixed and mobile IP video surveillance, IP-based alarm monitoring, marine security systems and asset protection."
Mr. Reid said: "Information is encrypted, so nobody else will have access.
"In addition to the health and safety aspects, commercial users will be able to impact their cost savings by monitoring fuel usage, efficiency and driving performance. They can even monitor their fleets' CO2 emissions."
MotoLink, which is based in King Street, Hamilton, will primarily concentrate on its Insta-Track motorcycle theft recovery device, having been data testing its products for the past 18 months, with the basic GPS package available for $250, including installation, as well as a $30 per month monitoring and tracking fee, with the option to add new features.
Its Phantom comprehensive motorcycle anti-theft and accident/crash detection system, which is specifically designed for motorbikes, monitors the movements of the motorcycle and, in the event of a collision, send live data to MotoLink's tracking centre. The device also incorporates traditional alarm features such as ignition disablers and 3D movement chipsets in addition to the next generation wireless technologies, as well as providing instant notification, dispatch, tracking and recovery Islandwide.
The company's vehicle fleet management system includes capabilities for all commercial motor vehicles ranging from cars and vans to trucks, covering financing, maintenance, telematics (tracking and diagnostics), and driver, fuel and health and safety management, thus reducing the risks involved in vehicle investment, improving efficiency and productivity, and overall transportation costs, while complying with the latest standards, practices and Government legislation.
