ABIR promotes Madeiros to deputy director

The Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR) today announced that Leila Madeiros has been promoted to the position of deputy director.Her title is now senior vice-president, deputy director and corporate secretary. Ms Madeiros has worked for ABIR for four years after serving on the staff of the Bermuda Monetary Authority, the Registrar of Companies and a captive insurer.Ms Madeiros has led ABIR’s efforts with regard to the Bermuda Solvency II equivalency project. Brad Kading, ABIR’s president and executive director, noted: “Leila has devoted herself tirelessly to the Solvency II project for ABIR members. Without her work in 2010 on 17 consultation projects with the BMA we would not have been able to complete these complex and difficult projects. She’s a solvency regulation expert and we are glad to have the benefit of her expertise.”He noted that ABIR looks forward to her continuing efforts on behalf of the internationally active insurance groups that make up ABIR’s membership.ABIR has 22 members, all companies with principal underwriting operations in Bermuda. ABIR members employ 1,800 people in Bermuda and its members at year end 2009 wrote $61 billion in premium on a capital base of $84 billion.
