AIG: Some sales rebounding

(Bloomberg) ? American International Group Inc., the insurer sued by New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer over improper accounting, said sales of some US products have started to rebound since the company?s earnings restatement.

Independent agents have become less ?cautious? about selling the company?s life insurance and retirement products in the US, chief executive Martin Sullivan said today on a conference call with analysts. Customers of AIG?s securities trading unit have also started to return, he said. AIG, the world?s biggest insurer, yesterday said accounting probes lowered transaction volume in both divisions during the second quarter. Sales started to return after AIG corrected accounting errors in a $3.9 billion earnings restatement on May 31. They have continued to rebound since the New York-based company reported first-quarter earnings at the end of June.
