Artist opens new hotel shop
Well-known Bermudian artist Carole Holding opened her third art shop in the Fairmont Southampton Princess Hotel yesterday.
The shop is on the lower ground floor of the hotel and sells Bermuda made products such as pottery, ceramic lighthouses, Bermuda cedar, banana leaf angels and gombey dolls.
The shop also sells Carole Holding products such as limited-edition lithographs, chopping boards, jams, chutneys and art to wear (Carole Holding designed tee-shirts); nautical items, antique bottles, shells for bathroom decorations, reproduction maps and the newly launched Bermuda Spa and Bermuda Tan products. Vice president of Carole Holding Ltd, Carole Holding said: “We were looking for a suitable location to expand our retail presence. Our market reach was lacking in the hotel industry and we are pleased to announce our new partnership with the largest hotel on the Island. We have worked with the Fairmont Southampton Princess for a number of years and are delighted to be opening our shop in their newly-renovated hotel.”
Managing director of the hotel Norman Mastalir said: “We welcome Carole Holding to the Fairmont family. We are very familiar with her work and we think her product will be an interesting shopping attraction to the many guests at the Fairmont Southampton Princess.”
Carole Holding lithographs are hung in many guest rooms at the Fairmont Southampton Princess Hotel, and Ms Holding has produced two lithographs of the hotel, Whaler Inn and Waterlot Inn, which are available for sale from her collection.
In addition, she has completed a chopping board design with a rockfish glaze recipe created by the head chef of the Waterlot Inn and note cards, which were commissioned by the hotel's managing director, featuring views of the Southampton Princess.
The original watercolour painting of the Whaler Inn is also available for sale from the Bermuda shop. The Fairmont partnership is Carole Holding Ltd.'s second strategic partnership. In April, the company formed a partnership with Bermuda Spa and Bermuda Tan as the exclusive retailer of their products.
Located in the former English Sports shop space, the store has been completely renovated and remodelled by architects Linberg & Simmons. The store is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week with an hour closure for lunch and reduced winter hours.
