Blackberry sees Bermuda as fruitful market for new services

Blackberry is the next generation in wireless mobile applications according to Blackberry Director Global Carrier Relations Paul Lucier.

Mr. Lucier represents Research In Motion based in Waterloo, Ontario, the company that makes Blackberry and he regards Bermuda as an emerging market to roll out Blackberry services. Mr. Lucier presented a series of presentations this week at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess to M3 Wireless's corporate customers to discuss the next Blackberry services.

"The phenomenon of Blackberry has taken off and become part of the popular culture. Blackberry is synonymous with wireless email."

Blackberry Director Global Carriers Business Unit said Blackberry can offer a total information technology solution for customers.

"Email is the first killer application but you can access phone functionality, browse the Internet, finance transactions, real estate transactions, or integrate disaster recovery or business continuity planning." He said most Blackberry users are not utilising the features of this hand held application. For corporate customers, Mr. Lucier said, the Blackberry can offer an integrated solution for their business in providing a secure mobile device."

If you don't have security in a mobile device, if it comprises all the security you have installed behind your network or firewall then it's not a device you should consider."

"It needs to secure and maintain and add to the secure environment you are running."

Mr. Lucier also highlighted another key feature of Blackberry ? Push Technology. "Push Technology means e-mail is automatically pushed to the device so there is no dialling in or downloading required."

He said the partnerships with companies such as QuoVadis and Logic Communications and the synergies under M3 Wireless enable further opportunities to add other innovative Blackberry services.
