Brown, Durham fill key Finance Ministry posts

Two experienced Bermudian businessmen - Wayne Brown and Hasan Durham - have filled two key posts within the Ministry of Finance, it was announced yesterday.

Mr. Brown has joined the Ministry of Finance as the assistant financial secretary of international business and Mr. Durham has joined the economic and financial intelligence division as an economist.

Mr. Brown will oversee the operations of the Business Development and Regulatory Division of the Ministry of Finance.

He will act under the general policy direction of Mr. Scott.

He brings more than 30 years experience in the local insurance and reinsurance sectors to the position.

Mr. Brown holds the UK Professional Insurance designation ACII and is a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute London and is a certified member of the Bermuda Insurance Institute.

His most recent position was as vice president at Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. (Bermuda Limited), which is a major brokering company.

He has also held positions in the underwriting and claims divisions of key insurance and reinsurance entities.

Mr. Durham spent four years as an investment accountant at Everest Capital Management.

He attended Dalhousie University in Canada and the University of Central Florida

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Masters Degree in Applied Economics.

He is also a well known Bermuda International cricket player and has represented Somerset Cricket Club during Cup Match.

In his new position, Mr. Durham will provide advice on a wide range of policy areas, including business development, trade, finance and banking, taxation and tourism development.

He will have regular contact with Government Ministers, senior public officers and leading business executives in the course of his duties.
