BSX gains ground
The Royal Gazette / Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) Index gained 36 points in last week's trading, driven by gains in the banking and telecommunications sectors.
Butterfield Bank Ltd. gained $1.50 (2.63 percent) over the five days as its share price moved up to $58.50, on trading of 7,902 shares. Butterfield is now trading within $1.50 of its 52-week high.
Bermuda Commercial Bank Ltd. lost ground as its share price fell $3 (24 percent) to close Friday on $9.50, as 7,067 shares changed hands. However, Bermuda Commercial Bank Ltd. Warrants gained 65 cents (65 percent) to close on $1.65, 10 cents shy of its year high, as 20,300 shares traded.
KeyTech Ltd., owner of BTC, was another company to gain value, climbing 45 cents (2.89 percent) to close on $16.00, on trading of 7,835 shares.
Bermuda Aviation Services Ltd. also enjoyed a good week, climbing 20 cents (3.17 percent) on the sale of 6,000 shares. The company closed Friday on $6.50.
MediaHouse Ltd., which owns the Bermuda Sun as well as media interests in the Caribbean and the US, gained 10 cents (1.52 percent) to close on $6.65 on trading of 10,000 shares.
Belco Holdings Ltd. fell $1.75 (7 percent), to close on $23.25, as 325 shares were sold, and Stevedoring Services lost 50 cents (7.14 percent) as 500 shares traded.
Over the week, the Index gained 36.2 points (0.72 percent) to close on 5,048.62. Volume of shares traded was 66,498, while turnover totalled $918,833.75.
