BSX slips, but insurers rise
The Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index fell 12.62 points last week to close at 3,871.46.
On a quiet week of trading the only issue to change price was Belco Holdings declining $1.35 to close at $39 as investors traded in 2,170 shares.
Butterfield Bank traded in 26,607 shares to remain unchanged at $46.60 and BF&M traded in 2,045 shares to remain unchanged at $18.50.
The total value of the shares bought and sold on the BSX last week was $1,364,121.80 and the overall volume of shares was 30,877.
The Bermuda Insurance Index gained 27.13 points to close at 1,155.44 for the week.
The index, which tracks the stocks of publicly traded Bermuda insurers and reinsurers, benefited as ACE, Arch Capital, Axis, Max Re, Partner Re and Platinum all closed strongly on Friday.
ACE closed just short of its 52-week high of $56.85 at $56.06, as did a number of other companies.
Among the insurers closing down on Friday were Renaissance Re, PXRE, Endurance and Quanta.
