BSX up as BCL surges

The Royal Gazette / Bermuda Stock Exchange inched closer to the 5,000-point mark on the back of a surge in the value of Bermuda Container Line Ltd. (BCL) shares.

BCL, which last week announced a 30 percent rise in net earnings, gained 24.6 percent, or $2.95, as 100 shares sold.

No other issues changed value on a day of light trading, when the bulk of activity was focused on KeyTech Ltd., the parent company of domestic phone line provider BTC. A total of 4,697 KeyTech shares sold, as the issue closed on $15.55.

Other unchanged issues that traded were Bermuda Commercial Bank Ltd. (500 shares) and Argus Group Holdings Ltd. (300 shares).

The Index closed on 4,992.74, up 15.91 points (0.32 percent). Volume totalled 5,597 shares and turnover was $83,878.50.
