BTC increases Internet speeds
BTC yesterday announced it is launching a new high speed phone line that will speed up delivery of Internet and e-mail to home users.
But the Bermuda Computer Society warned that users will also have to contact their Internet Service Providers to upgrade delivery speeds to take advantage of the three megabyte service provided by BTC.
BTC customers who now have 256 kilobyte upstream/1.5 Meg downstream access to the home for $89 a month will now get 512k upstream/2 Megs downstream access for the same price, the CSB said in an e-mail.
Customers who now get 512k upstream /1.5 Meg downstream accessto the home for $109 a month will now get 768k upstream/3 Megs downstream accessfor the same price, the CSB added.
While customers will be automatically upgraded by BTC, but will have to contact their ISPs about matching these new speeds. Currently, the maximum speed offered to residential DSL customers is 1 Meg for $109.95 per month from Logic, North Rock and Transact.
Once upgraded, a customer who previously had 256k upstream access will not have 512k upstream access and the 1.5 meg downstream speed will now be megs. Users with 512k downstream access will now have 768k and instead of 1.5 meg downstream speeds, they will now have three megs.
