Allied World Assurance Company Ltd., (AWAC) has announced the appointment of John L. Murphy as senior vice president property.Mr. Murphy is based at the company's new headquarters and operational centre in Hamilton.With more than 28 years of property underwriting experience in the insurance, reinsurance and surplus lines areas, Mr. Murphy has experienced several underwriting cycles and feels the current property market offers many opportunities.

AWAC appoints new vice president

Allied World Assurance Company Ltd., (AWAC) has announced the appointment of John L. Murphy as senior vice president property.

Mr. Murphy is based at the company's new headquarters and operational centre in Hamilton.

With more than 28 years of property underwriting experience in the insurance, reinsurance and surplus lines areas, Mr. Murphy has experienced several underwriting cycles and feels the current property market offers many opportunities.

Prior to joining AWAC, Mr. Murphy spent 11 years each with American Re and Employers Reinsurance. His most recent position was with the Lexington Insurance Company where he served as the chief property underwriter.

"In insurance, knowing what to do is simple... doing it can be extremely difficult," said Mr. Murphy.

Mr Murphy began his insurance career in 1974 in the Boston MA office of the Royal Globe Insurance Company. Born and educated in Nashville Tennesse, Mr. Murphy was also a member of the US Marine Corps between 1969 and 1971.

Air Care and college earn certification.

Air Care Limited has announced that eight of its mechanical technicians and their chiller specialist were recently awarded the Mine Safety Appliances (MSA) Certificate of Instruction from the world's leading refrigerant monitor manufacturer.

Mr. Haile Fough, Mr. Rod Mclay, Mr. Graham Martin, Mr. Derek Alderson, Mr. Carl Roberts, Mr. Robert Scott, Mr. Ornette Fough; Mr. Marvin Yelland, Mr Jahmain Coddington and Mr. Don Moffitt of Bermuda College have all completed the Mine Safety Appliances Company product training program in the application and use of MSA products and is now authorised by Mine Safety Appliances Company to perform sales and service on all MSA products.

"I would like to thank Air Care for affording me the opportunity of sitting in on the refrigerant monitor course conducted by MSA. I found the course to be informative and well presented as a result, and as part of my class room curriculum, in the fall, I plan on offering a refrigerant monitor information session to my students in an effort of making them aware of the operations and benefits of a refrigerant monitor. Additionally, as an environmental and safety precautions I would suggest that Bermuda implement a mandatory policy whereby all large equipment rooms be equipped with a refrigerant monitoring system." said Don Moffitt, Instructor H.V.A.C, Bermuda College
