Insurers win awards
Two Bermuda insurance companies have been honoured at the 'Review Worldwide Reinsurance Awards', held on September 3 in London.
New Bermuda insurer, Montpelier Reinsurance Ltd. was named Company Launch of the Year while Scottish Re won a new award for Life Reinsurer of the Year.
Jason Groves, Editor of "The Review", said: "With just over a year's operation under their belts, the management of Montpelier Re have many reasons to celebrate. The company has concluded a successful stock market float and seen its premium volume grow steadily while maintaining the kind of combined ratio that is the envy of more established reinsurers. It is clearly one of the Bermuda start-ups to keep an eye on for the future."
Scottish Re Group, formerly Scottish Annuity & Life, is "one of the most innovative and profitable companies in the industry, Scottish Re," according to Mr. Groves.
"Despite its relative youth - it celebrates the fifth anniversary of its founding this year - the company has already made a strong name for itself and had an outstanding 2002, which greatly impressed the judges."

Catlin rating affirmed
A.M. Best Co. has affirmed the financial strength rating of A (Excellent) of Catlin Insurance Company Limited (CICL), Bermuda, adding the company's outlook is stable.
Best said the rating reflects the company's excellent capitalisation and prospective financial performance, access to business with a proven track record through Lloyd's Syndicate 2003 - currently rated A (Excellent) - and its development of a diversified account from other business sources.
"An offsetting factor is the challenge to CICL from increased business volume. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Catlin Group Ltd (CGL), a Bermudian holding company."
