Government insurance consultant and former chief actuary for ACE Ltd. has been appointed as a director of Selective Insurance Group Inc. in New Jersey.
Dr. Burville will take the post effective January 1 and will stand for election by shareholders at Selective?s annual meeting in April, 2006.
He will serve on the salary and employee benefits committee and the finance committee.
?John Burville brings an exceptional level of experience and actuarial acumen to the Board,? William M. Kearns, Jr., Selective?s lead director and chairman of the corporate governance and nominating committee said.
Dr. Burville is currently an insurance consultant to the Bermuda government. He has more than 30 years experience in the insurance industry, having served as Chief Actuary and senior rating agency manager for ACE Ltd. and managing principal for Tillinghast.
Appleby Spurling Hunter has appointed as the Head of the corporate and commercial practice group and as the head of the trusts practice group.
These partners will be taking on these additional firm leadership responsibilities as a result of the promotion of Shaun Morris to the position of managing partner of the Bermuda office.
Mr. Morris previously headed these groups. will assume the leadership of the telecommunications, technology and intellectual property team, a position previously held by Ms Collis.

Ms Collis was called to the Bermuda Bar in 1986 and became a partner of Appleby in 1991. She specialises in advising on public and private company offerings, mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures, primarily for telecommunication and technology companies.
Ms Collis received her LLB from King?s College in London.
Mr. Faries will continue serving as the Team Leader for the Insurance team as well as taking on leadership responsibilities for the Trusts Practice Group.
He will continue to advise insurance clients, including sponsors and investors in Bermuda?s reinsurance industry.
Mr. Fairies qualified as a barrister and solicitor in Canada in 1991 and obtained a Masters Degree in International Business Law from McGill University.
He joined Appleby in 1993 and became a partner in 2000 and serves on the Insurance Advisory Committee and is a member of the board of directors of the Bermuda International Business Association.
Mr. Adderley joined Appleby in 1998 and became a partner in 2001. He practises within the Corporate and Commercial Practice Group and advises in relation to all aspects of company law. He focuses primarily on the needs of the firm?s telecommunications and technology clients.
Mr. Adderley qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales, in 1992 following training in London with the solicitors? firm of Simmons & Simmons where he continued to practise until returning to Bermuda in 1995.
