Disaster recovery team rides to the rescue
A local technology company - Fort Knox - got put to the test over the Christmas holiday when a Hamilton office flooded on Boxing Day.
The company, which offers disaster recovery services, came to the aid of First Atlantic Commerce (FAC) when their ground floor Par-la-Ville Place office was flooded by a suspected water heater leak on one of the building's upper floors.
The damage was discovered early on the first business day - December 27 - after Christmas.
Fort Knox chief executive officer Troy Symonds said the company has a dedicated “disaster recovery room”, with workstations for up to 15 people. The facility is housed at their St. David's location.
Mr. Symonds said however that this was their “first real test”.
The end result was that FAC staff were back at work, but from their temporary St. David's office, by 4 p.m. on December 27.
Although eager to get back in to their Hamilton office space, Mr. Symonds said FAC has been able to get work done in the interim.
The company expects to be back in its offices this week.
Mr. Symonds said Fort Knox is also currently building several more “disaster recovery rooms”.
Once construction is completed, Fort Knox will have seven disaster recovery rooms on site and the ability to provide work stations for up to 60 people.
