Entrepreneur starts service aimed at renewing buildings
Fired by his passion for the restoration of commercial, residential and public buildings, Corey Powell has opened Renew Bermuda, a mobile power washing service.
Mr. Powell said the idea for the business first came to him almost 20 years ago when he was working with his father Everett Powell to clean up damage caused to the property of Johnny Pereira which was damaged by Hurricane Emily in 1987.
Having worked for his father's tank cleaning and tank repair business and for other employers since then, Mr. Powell struck out on his own in January.
"Its not like any other business, it is innovative and it has given me a lot of thought as to how far this business can grow but I am passionate about anything I do," he said.
Renew Bermuda's purpose is to preserve the quality of buildings and properties all year round, he said, adding that in Bermuda's environment it doesn't take long for a property to show wear and tear from pollution from salt spray and mould and other forms of environmental degradation.
Mr. Powell will first use the power wash to clean the building's exterior and to remove aged finishes. The specially designed pumps can also be used on wooden decks to remove greying and restore the wood's original colour. It can also be used on walkways and pavements.
After the building has been power-washed, the building owner can then have it repainted.
"This service is not just to keep a building clean and pretty, it preserves the life of the finished product," he said.
"A building is a major investment and as such it should always look its best. Many customers and investors can often judge a business' ability based on its appearance," Mr. Powell said.
"Maintaining a building's condition and appearance will impress clients and maintain the value of your investment for both landlords and tenants.
"This service is available to building and business owners, real estate agents, contractors, and residential homeowners. Bermuda has a reputation of being one of the cleanest places in the world and Renew Bermuda can help to keep that reputation."
