Fairmont to hold employment fair

Locals looking for an exciting career in the hospitality industry are being encouraged to attend the Fairmont Southampton Recruitment Job Fair tomorrow.

The job fair at the Southampton resort is primarily a recruitment exercise to interview candidates for a variety of positions at the hotel for the 2006 season but will also provide information about opportunities available in the hospitality industry.

Front desk agents, room attendants and housepersons are just a few of the positions available. "These positions are mainly filled by Bermudians," Fairmont Southampton regional director of human resources Nelda Simons said.

"Even though we place advertisements in the newspaper for positions we don't necessarily have large volumes of applications but we have a number of vacancies to fill to ensure we are properly staffed to provide good service to our guests."

The hotel is also looking for food and beverage servers, spa attendants, chefs, conference service managers, a director of destination services and human resource recruiters.

At the job fair there will be a video presentation about the benefits of working at the hotel, copies of the company newspaper Dialogue, and refreshments.

"Individuals will be interviewed on the spot. If they have not yet completed an application form they will be able to do at that time and will be scheduled for an interview on that day."

"This enables the department heads and others involved in the interview process to do one full day of interviews."

Ms Simons said the hotel is looking for very outgoing people, genuinely wanting to give great service and be able to interact well with their colleagues and guests.

"People are coming to us for an experience and we want to make sure that when guests stay here they have a pleasant, memorable and exciting time as possible."

She said the opportunities offered by the Fairmont Southampton are not limited to opportunities in Bermuda as joining the hotel is only an introduction to the Fairmont family.

"The Fairmont Southampton is an international business competing on a global basis," Fairmont Southampton Learning Coach Imani Myers said.

"When you work at the hotel you get a wonderful experience and start your foundation in Bermuda but you can travel and experience the world," Ms Myers added.

The recruitment job fair will be held tomorrow between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Fairmont Southampton hotel and those wishing to attend can call 239-6988 to schedule an interview or attend the job fair and schedule an interview.

If individuals are unable to attend they can submit their resumes' to the Fairmont Southampton, Human Resources Department P.O. Box 1379, Hamilton HM FX or call 239-6988 or fax at 238-0680.
