Fishing for customers

The public have fallen for it hook, line and sinker. The revamped and renamed Fisherman's reef has proved a hit with locals and tourists alike.

Two weeks ago the place re-opened as Barracuda Grill, an upmarket eatery which has tipped the scales with diners with its new menu.

This eatery has adopted the new school of cooking when it comes to fish, with traditional dishes taking on a new slant. Oysters ceviche and chocolate fondu jostle with more traditional crab cakes and filet mignon.

"We have had a great reaction from our customers," said Philip Barnett, Managing Partner of the restaurant.

"Fisherman's Reef has been here for 26 years and Bermuda is one hundred percent an evolving marketplace and we had to move with the times to meet the needs of our customers who have sophisticated tastes." The restaurant bar has been moved and the entire place overhauled with new fittings and fixtures. The interior was designed by Seattle interior designer Robert Clark, but the work was carried out by local firms.

"This restaurant and the way it looks has proved the point that Bermudian workmen are the best in the world. We had six weeks of renovations and what I got was above and beyond my expectations," said Mr. Barnett. Barracuda Grill also has an extensive new wine list with 110 different wines ranging in price from $25 to $450.

"We wanted to attract more customers who go for business lunches and upscale tourists and make sure they feel they are getting a bang for their buck. It is a beautifully designed restaurant catering to the sophisticated."
