New York! New York!: That is the theme for Hamilton's latest eatery.

The Grand Central Deli; a New York style delicatessen opened its doors last week.

Decorated with murals of the New York skyline and working parking meters (to reserve your seat at the communal counter), the new deli professes to be the closest Bermuda has to a New York deli with a full range of (not processed) cheeses and cold cuts, fresh from New York bread and cheesecake flown in from the Big Apple's Carnegie Deli.

The deli also serves breakfast - all day long - and eh Canadians, Tim Horton's coffee is brewing as well as Illy espresso.

Located on Washington Street, the company was incorporated late last year by husband and wife team Matt and Kiri Waite.

This is not however the entrepreneurial couple's first Bermuda food venture. The pair made fresh pasta for sale to Island hotels and supermarkets in the 1990s. Chicago-born Mr. Waite was also formerly sous-chef at the Pompano Beach Club.
