Gutierrez appointed European treaty underwriter

ACE Tempest Re Europe has announced the appointment of Eric Gutierrez as European treaty underwriter in their newly opened underwriting division in Dublin.

Mr. Gutierrez will have specific responsibility for developing property and casualty treaty business in the Mediterranean region of Europe including France, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Greece.

Tony Spice, chief underwriting officer of ACE Tempest Re Europe in Dublin said: "Eric's experience and knowledge of the European market will greatly benefit ACE Tempest Re's business development efforts. His appointment is the first of several in a team of regional underwriters designed to enhance the division's underwriting capabilities for Continental Europe."

Mr. Gutierrez joins ACE Tempest Re with over 11 years experience in the international treaty business both as a reinsurance underwriter and as a reinsurance broker.

Previously, he served as senior treaty underwriter for Le Mans Re's operation in Miami, USA and prior to that for Intermediaires Associes en Reassurance/Groupe Walbaum in Paris as senior reinsurance broker for Southern Europe. ACE Tempest Re Europe is a division of ACE European Markets Reinsurance Limited, an Irish company that is part of the ACE Group of Companies.

The Bank of Bermuda Ltd. has appointed Peter G. Grewal as head of internal audit, an executive officer position.

Mr. Grewal joined the bank in July 2001 with responsibility for audit functions in the Bank's Bermuda, New York and Cayman offices and in January 2002 he assumed temporary leadership of the global Audit Division.

Prior to joining the bank, Mr. Grewal gained extensive audit experience in the London-based firms of J.P. MorganChase, Deutsche Bank, Bankers Trust and Guinness Mahon Group.

He holds a BA in Business Studies from the University of Westminster and is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors.

Conyers Dill & Pearman partner Alec Anderson is this week speaking at the IBC 14th annual Offshore Trust & Tax Planning Summit, Master Symposium series in Florida where he is chairing a panel on private purpose trusts together with Justin Appleyard, partner at Maples and Calder in the Cayman Islands and Edward Buckland from Bedell Cristin in Jersey.

Also attending the conference is Peter Pearman, an associate in the Trust Department of Conyers Dill and Pearman.

His practice includes all aspects of trusts and estate planning with special expertise in the use of purpose trusts in commercial transactions and local Bermudian estate planning.
