Inflation drops in August
The rate of inflation dropped once again to 2.8 percent during the month of August, according to figures released by Government Information Services.
The Consumer Price Index, which is used as a gauge in Bermuda for inflation fell from three percent in July and 3.1 percent in June to its lowest level since March.
According to a Government release, the price movement for more than half the sectors remained unchanged from the previous month, which slowed the overall pace of price increases.
And during the month of August consumer prices on average advanced 0.3 percent. The all-items index, which is used to calculate the CPI, rose from 116.9 points in July to 117.3 in August.
In the main sectors in the basket of goods used to calculate the index, the transport and vehicles sector was the strongest, rising two percent during the month.
The upward movement was attributed to the seasonal rise in hotel accommodation costs, up 5.3 percent and the average price of airline tickets, up 1.1 percent. Premium and mixed fuel rose 2.8 and 2.6 percent respectively.
