ABIC seeks executive director

The Association of Bermuda International Companies is looking for an executive director as it moves to expand its resources to deal with such issues as sustainable development and hiring and training in member companies.

ABIC represents internationally owned businesses which are physically located in Bermuda, but conduct operations worldwide.

The new post of executive director will help ABIC move forward its policies and initiatives, according to chairman David Ezekiel.

?We have monthly meetings and a lot of decisions are made and we just feel we need an engine that keeps it all going in the interim,? he said. ?We have plans to do a lot of work in the area of sustainable development and in the area of hiring and training in our member companies and this is something we feel needs more than the resources we have at present.?

ABIC?s mission is to protect the environment in which its companies operate.

As such, it deals with everything from infrastructure to relations with government, taxation, work permits and encouraging members to be good corporate citizens in terms of hiring and training.

?The issues facing the community in terms of the impact of international business are probably greater now than they have ever been and need addressing. We want to make sure we play our part in that,? he said.
