Want to know how to "manage your boss"?

That is just one of the topics up for discussion in a seminar - being held by the Bermuda Employers Council - at the end of the month.

Geared towards executive and senior level secretaries, the three-day course is designed to "upgrade you to greater professionalism".

As a seminar for the professional development of executive and senior secretaries it does not however involve clerical skills, according to workshop leader Paul Loftus.

Mr. Loftus, a management consultant from Canada, said: "I am not teaching secretarial work.

"That is something the participants would know more about than me," he said.

Mr. Loftus added that his role was to address time management and greater effectiveness on the job for staff members that are increasingly shouldering more and more responsibility from their "executive, often-travelling executive bosses".

Mr. Loftus added that the title of secretary was being phased out and replaced by management assistant or personal assistant.

Mr. Loftus said a "secretary" now does much more than typing and filing, and new job titles reflect the increase in responsibilities.

In specific the course goes over communicating assertively with results, enhancing business, management and personal confidence, improving writing skills and managing yourself and your boss.

The course - which is an all-day course set to run from April 29 through May 1 - is to be held at the Bermuda Employers Council office and will include lectures, case studies, discussions and role playing.
