Logic rolls out higher speed service

Logic communications have signed up their first customers to use "super high-speed Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) Internet Services (LogicDSL)," and announced a new partnership with a US company to streamline networking operations.

After announcing the introduction of the LogicDSL service last week, spokesman Bill Dickinson said yesterday that anyone eligible through the Bermuda Telephone Company's (BTC) provision of fibre optic cable could apply for the service, and so far there had been an "overwhelming response".

The LogicDSL service opens up the information superhighway to Bermuda's residents with internet access speeds up to 25 times faster than the standard 56.6k dial-up technology which at times has been troubled with unstable analogue telephone line connections.

Mr. Dickinson said that Island residents have been holding their breath for this service, and with a steady structured roll out of service by BTC which has converted phone lines across the Island to be ADSL compatible starting at Cobb's Hill Warwick, residents in that area wasted no time in jumping on the high speed bandwagon within the first days of LogicDSL being available in Bermuda.

Mr. Dickinson said residents from all over the Island have inquired with logic wondering when they might be eligible for the service and customer service representatives have fielded calls from Somerset to St. David's.

Mr. Dickinson also explained that the obvious benefits of the DSL service are that a person can be online with the internet and talking on the phone at the same time, without a second telephone line.

ADSL replaces the cost of local phone calls and eliminates extra charges for overcalls and the speeds of LogicDSL also allow users to download large graphic files, photographs, video and music clips, all within a matter of seconds.

Once eligible, customers need to purchase a DSL modem from one of the authorised retailers, complete the LogicDSL service application form, and they will be, "up and running in no time".

Logic communications has also announced a new partnership with Atlanta-based Radware which will improve performance and save costs.

Radware specialises in Internet Traffic Management (ITM) and develops, manufactures and markets Internet traffic solutions that enable continuous, secure access to websites and other services, applications and content based on internet protocol.

Logic business development manager John Cowan explained: "The Logic/Radware alliance is going to allow us to develop customised solutions for multivendor internet load balancing, firewall redundancy management and web server traffic management across multiple installments if necessary."

Logic believes it is time for service providers to understand the critical importance of Internet uptime for corporate customers.Logic believes the Radware product set will complement their existing internet service in Bermuda and Mr. Cowan said: "Logic's competitive advantage has always been our ability to deliver turnkey IP solutions to the local market.

"Providing and servicing a product that enables our customers to manage their precious network traffic more efficiently is a logical extension of the turnkey concept."Logic and Radware kick off their partnership on September 18 with a live product demonstration and technology seminar at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI) on September 18 and any local business with interest in attending should e-mail: saleslogic.bm.
