Loral loses satellite

NEW YORK (Bloomberg) - Loral Space & Communications Ltd., a satellite maker that filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July, said its Telstar 4 satellite lost power and ceased operations.

The satellite, which broadcasts television images, had a short circuit in its power supply on Friday, Bermuda-registered Loral said in a statement. Loral and Lockheed Martin Corp. built the satellite and are both assessing the damage. The satellite is insured for $141 million, Loral said.

Customers that used Telstar 4 are being switched over to other satellites.
