Mystery over cancellations
American International Group (AIG) affiliates Starr Excess Liability Company Ltd. and American International Underwriters (Mediterranean) Inc. have cancelled their registration with the Bermuda Monetary Authority at the request of the companies.
No one from AIG could be contacted yesterday to explain the cancelling of the registrations, but the Bermuda Insurance Act says that no insurer shall carry on business unless they are registered by the Minister of Finance.
According to legal notices published in The Royal Gazette on Tuesday, the registration of Starr Excess Liability Insurance Company Ltd. was cancelled - at the request of the company - on May 21, and the registration of American International Underwriters (Mediterranean) was cancelled - also at the request of the company - on April 30.
No one from the Bermuda Monetary Authority - which is responsible for insurance companies - could be contacted yesterday to explain the cancelling of the registrations.
Starr Excess Liability Insurance Company Ltd. was set up in 1993 by AIG to provide capacity for casualty and D&O insurance.
