New business to offer alternative to paint
Residents looking to give their outdoor furniture, vehicles or boats a smooth finish can now go to Bermuda Powder Coating Services.
Owned by Reggie Weeks, the business opened two weeks ago and operates out of the Perinchief Burrows Building on Industrial Road in Southampton.
Mr. Weeks, a gadget freak and a car and bike buff, has 17 years experience in the office machinery repair industry and is a certified photocopier and printer technician.
Branching out on his own was a decision he had been thinking about for some time but with the support of his wife, Carla Weeks, and the support of family and friends such as Robert Moniz, he is now seeking to realise his dreams.
Mr. Weeks also gained valuable experience working as an assistant vice president in the autoworks division of the HWP Group.
"As a young Bermudian it's rare to get the opportunity to make your own path but there is demand for high quality products," he said. "Powder coating is an environmentally friendly alternative to paint, but it is more durable. When you spend a lot of money on certain things, you want to keep them looking new and keeping them that way as long as you can," Mr. Weeks said.
"Powder coating also has better corrosive resistance. It doesn't easily flake or chip and can handle the climate conditions in Bermuda better as far as outside exterior products such as aluminium shutters, outdoor furniture, shelves, boat parts, car parts and bike rims," Mr. Weeks said.
Powder coating can also be applied in a variety of colours and Mr. Weeks is happy to provide custom-made colours.
"We are the only full powder coating shop on the Island and anybody that needs something coated or re-coated is going to be our customer base as the possibilities are endless."
