Platinum, which didn?t translate the preliminary estimate into dollars, still expects to be profitable in 2005, the company said in a statement distributed by PR Newswire yesterday. Losses from other catastrophes, including Hurricanes Dennis and Emily, will reduce third-quarter results by $16 million.

As well, another Bermuda reinsurer, Max Re Capital Ltd. said it estimates its third-quarter earnings will be negatively impacted by $60 million to $90 million from Hurricane Katrina, in an after-market statement.
