Ratteray moves up at Zurich Global Energy

Zurich Global Energy has announced the appointment of Derek Ratteray to the position of senior vice president International Casualty.

Mr. Ratteray, who is Bermudian, joined Zurich Global Energy in September, 200. His new appointment takes effect from February 1, 2002.

As svp for International Casualty Mr. Ratteray will be responsible for providing non-U.S. clients with both traditional and innovative casualty concepts and total risk solutions, including general liability, pollution liability, and umbrella and excess liability coverages, and will manage various product and service initiatives as well as underwriting guidelines. The international casualty operations in London, Zurich and Bermuda will report to him.

Mr. Ratteray is currently vice president and Bermuda Casualty Branch manager responsible for all branch operations including day-to-day casualty underwriting activities.

Before joining Zurich Global Energy he spent five years at XL Capital in Bermuda, where he was Vice President responsible for the casualty team writing Energy, Chemicals, Health Care and Consumer Products business for XL Insurance Ltd.

He has been in the insurance industry since 1982 and holds a variety of underwriting positions in both excess insurance and reinsurance companies.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Dalhousie University in Canada. Zurich's president Pete Connors said: "Derek is the natural choice to lead our International Casualty operations into the challenging times facing this industry. His experience and depth of underwriting knowledge will serve Zurich well."
