Taylor wins top award

Montpelier Re Holdings Ltd.'s Chairman, President & CEO, Anthony Taylor, has been named 'Outstanding Achiever of the Year' at the 2004 Insurance Day Awards.

Jon Guy, Editor-in-Chief of 'Insurance Day', said: "Anthony has impressed our judges and the market with his skilled leadership of a focused post September 11th property catastrophe start-up reinsurance company that rapidly established itself as a significant quality alternative and delivered quick returns to investors.

He has earned the distinction of 'Outstanding Achiever of the Year' for his outstanding contributions to the global industry from both London and Bermuda, forthright furtherance of quality underwriting, and commitment to meeting investor expectations."

Mr. Taylor, said: "I am very honoured that 'Insurance Day' has chosen to distinguish me in this way.

"I have been involved in insurance and reinsurance for almost forty years, the last three of which at Montpelier have been the most challenging and exciting of my career.

"I feel that this award reflects the commitment and excellence of all my team, whom I am privileged to lead."

The Insurance Day Awards are designed to recognise excellence in all sectors of the insurance, reinsurance and risk industries and are chosen from entries from around the world.

The awards are adjudicated by a distinguished judging panel, including the CEO of the Benfield Group, Grahame Chilton, and the Chief Executive of the International Underwriting Association, Marie-Louise Rossi.

Managing director of Troncossi Public Relations Elizabeth Tee has received her IPR Accredited Practitioner status from the Institute of Public Relations. It is awarded to participants who have logged three years in Developing Excellence, the IPR's continuous professional development (CDP) scheme.

Ms Tee said: "The CDP process has enabled me to keep up-to-date with the ever changing world of public relations, and achieving Accredited Practitioner status recognises my commitment to the industry."

Nadia Hamza has successfully completed her pupillage with Mello Jones & Martin and was called to the Bermuda Bar. Mello Jones & Martin Partners Juliana Snelling and Alan Dunch presented Nadia to Justice Norma Wade Miller, where the Justice ordered that Nadia be admitted and enrolled to practice as a Barrister and Attorney. Nadia will be joining the firm as a Junior Associate.

Nadia moved to Bermuda from England at the age of eight. After attending Bermuda High School for Girls she graduated with an honours degree in French from Queenswood Boarding School and University College in London.

She took her LLB at City University in London and her Legal Practice Course at College of Law in Chester. She previously worked at Bacardi International and Global Crossing.

The Continental Society of Bermuda has named Berkeley Institute graduate Nichole Alicia Shaw the recipient of its 2004/2005 Bermuda College Scholarship.

Ms Shaw attended Paget Primary and Spice Valley Middle School before going on to Berkeley, where she was an honours student and appointed Senior Prefect in her last year.

She graduated in June and plans to pursue a two-year associate degree in business at Bermuda College, before going on to Temple University in the US to complete her undergraduate degree with a specialisation in accounting.

The Continental Society of Bermuda is a registered charity operating on the Island for more than 40 years. Its mandate is to help children in the community, specifically in the areas of health, education, employment, recreation and the arts/humanities.

Bermuda Project Managers announced yesterday that one of its founding directors has resigned.

Martin Bolton will step down at the end of the year after having co-founded the company in 1997 with Adam Hawley and Ian Feathers.

In a Press statement, the company said: "Martin will be missed and the directors and staff of Bermuda Project Managers Ltd. wish him well in his future endeavours."

The release said that Bermuda Project Managers is Bermuda's independent authority on construction industry processes and controls.
